The farm, run by the Mortimer family, a 3rd generation farm started in 1947 by their grandfather
Traditionally a beef and sheep farm we diversified into milking goats in 2020. Ryan spent a placement year in Australia milking 1100 cows per day and knew when he came home he wanted to be involved in some sort of milk production.
In 2019 they had 53 sets of triplet lambs born, one lamb from each set had to be reared on the bottle as the mother would not have enough milk for 3 lambs.
As this was a labour intensive job we decided to buy 5 goats to help rear the orphan lambs. Once the orphan lambs were reared the goats still had a lot of milk so bothers Ryan & Fergal approached Dart Mountain Cheese to see if they would be interested in buying our excess milk. The owners, Kevin and Julie Hickey, happily agreed to start buying our milk and we have been supplying them since 2020.
Our goat herd has grown from 5 goats in 2019 to 120 goats now in 2022.
Future Plans
We hope to start pasteurising our own milk to sell to the public.
And coming soon are our farm to fork tours with Dart Mountain Cheese to show let the public experience the full process
